Wedding Gift Bags & Favors: Annapolis
One of the most important parts of any wedding is ensuring that your guests feel welcome – after all, they’ve traveled all this way for your big day. A wonderful way to show your appreciation is to include a gift or welcome bag at the hotel to thank those guests who have traveled from out of town. In addition to essentials including snacks, a few water bottles and asprin for day-after hangover cures, you’ll want to include a few personalized details of your wedding and the venue that you’ve chosen.
If you’re planning an Annapolis wedding, here are a few items we’d consider as “must includes” :
Cake or Cupcakes from Caroline’s Cakes:
Arguably the town’s most famous baked good, Caroline’s signature seven-layer caramel cake actually hails from a South Carolina recipe. Made with seven tiny layers of yellow cake and rich homemade caramel frosting, these cakes have been featured everywhere from the Today Show to Food & Wine magazine and most recently in the movie “The Help.” We’d suggest including a custom cupcake or two with her signature caramel frosting in your wedding bag – order ahead of time so that you can have your wedding colors or motif inscribed on top as part of the design. Of course, the cake also references another town tradition – the Smith Island cake, Maryland’s own “official dessert.”
Crab House Nuts from Blue Crab Bay Co.:
There’s nothing like the taste of Old Bay to give one a true Annapolis experience. Probably the town’s “official condiment” this spice is found on everything from crabs to french fries. It’s boring to simply gift a spice rub, so treat guests to this chic-ly packaged peanut mix that’s been pre spiced with a local blend. If you wanted to do a welcome cocktail, try a Bloody Mary or Bloody Maria with the company’s “Sting Ray” mix, one of our favorites.
This Maryland staple is a soft, almost cake-like vanilla cookie with a decadently chocolatey fudge topping. Originally developed in Baltimore, these cookies can be found in most area grocery stores and are sure to please most everyone – including little ones in the wedding party.
This official flower of Maryland is an inexpensive and perky addition to any basket. Put one or two in a small vase in the room beside the basket to add a homey touch.
